Doing our best for the environment

Adora’s commitment to doing what’s right for the environment is driven by one simple truth – we live where we work. Our homes, our families and our friends are all right here, in the same communities where we create cabinet and storage solutions for customers like you. We think globally and act locally in ways that minimize our carbon footprint and protect the environment today and for future generations.

Green processes

Our management and staff follow best practices in everything we do, including reducing waste and making environmentally responsible choices. This means we work to eliminate or reduce the release of contaminants through prevention, recycling and the use of advanced technologies such as:

  • technology to measure precisely to optimize material usage
  • dust collectors that keep shop air clean
  • filters that warm and return air to the shop to reduce the impact of our building’s heating system
  • air filtering system in our paint shop, which traps airborne lacquer particles
  • weekly recycling of cardboard with Waste Management
  • recycling old stains and lacquer products with a specialty waste facility

We also work hard to take an environmentally responsible approach to how we do business. Whether it’s encouraging lunch-room recycling, using china cups and plates, or printing both sides of paper and turning off equipment and lights at the end of the day we know even the smallest things can have a big impact.

Green awareness

Adora offers ongoing training and education to our employees to make sure they’re doing everything they can to be environmentally responsible in their work. We also share information about our approach to environmental awareness with anyone and everyone, including our suppliers and customers. And because we’re committed to continuous improvement, we conduct periodic reviews of our environmental performance and policies to make sure we’re doing things right.

Green suppliers

Adora has a long standing partnership with Upper Canada Forest Products (UCFP)– a Forest Stewardship Certified (FSC) supplier. FSC suppliers are committed to providing forest products that are responsibly managed, and verified to meet FSC’s rigorous standards. Those standards outline the forestry practices aboriginal, economic, environmental and social stakeholders have identified as representing forestry practices that will create healthy forests and strong communities. An increasing number of UCFP’s products also now qualify for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points, which rate the environmental sustainability of construction products.
